Hug Your Cat Day

June 1, 2023

One of Fluffy’s favorite days is coming up: June 4th is Hug Your Cat Day. Then again, depending on the kitty, this could also be your feline pal’s least favorite day. While some cats are little cuddlebugs, others would rather be admired from a distance. A local Parkland, FL veterinarian delves into this topic below.

Benefits of Hugging Kitties

One of the many things we love about cats is the fact that they’re so affectionate. As it turns out, snuggling Fluffy is good for both you and your furry pal. Our feline friends can be a great source of comfort and friendship. In fact, hugging your kitty can help ease stress and tension, and can even lower your blood pressure. Talk about the purrfect pet!

How To Properly Hug A Cat

As mentioned above, not all kitties enjoy being held. There are also quite a few that will only tolerate it for a minute. The rule here? Let Fluffy decide when it’s time to snuggle. (Your furball may of course ignore you when you’re relaxing in your favorite chair, and then clamor for attention while you’re busy doing something, but that’s only to be expected with cats.)

Kitten Snuggles

If your feline buddy is still a kitten, then you definitely want to hug and cuddle her frequently. Baby furballs really want to feel loved and safe! Let little Fluffy snooze on your lap or in your arms. This is great for bonding and socialization. Although cats think of us as second parents, that bond really needs to be nurtured. (They also think of us as servants, but that’s beside the point.)

Cats That Don’t Like Hugs

If your furry buddy is more aloof, you can still pamper her on this special day. Kitty favorites like toys, treats, and catnip will get that motor going. You can also go high-tech, and offer Fluffy a remote-controlled toy. A simple empty box will also please your feline overlord.

Cats In Need Of Hugs

June is also Adopt A Shelter Cat Month, which makes this a purrfect time to spread the word about furballs that need loving homes. Share some posts about cute kitties that are up for adoption. You could change Fluffy’s life with just a few keystrokes!
