Celebrating Meow Like A Pirate Day

Meow Like A Pirate Day is September 19th! While we love celebrating all the unofficial pet holidays, this one is particularly special. After all, we have a pretty long history with pirates around these parts! A Coral Springs, FL vet lists some purrfect ways to celebrate below. 

Seafood Dinner

Most kitties really enjoy seafood. Offer Fluffy something yummy. She can have most types of fish, including salmon, mackerel, cod, flounder, and whitefish. Just make sure it’s plain, well-cooked, and free of bones.

New Digs

Did you know that you can get your furry little pirate a scratching post that looks like a ship? You can also find comfy kitty beds shaped like sharks. Or, just put a Jolly Roger blanket on her bed. (Bucs blankets will also work.)

Sea Chanty

Have you seen the sea shanty dance that’s gone viral lately? Fluffy probably won’t be very good at it, but she’s probably more than willing to supervise as you and/or the kids try it out. (Then again, she may just take her leave and go … to bed.)

Books

Books and cats are a perfect mix. Take advantage of our mild weather, and check out a fun pirate book. There are some great classics to delve into: Captain Kidd and Blackbeard are a few good options. You can also find some great nonfiction reads!

Toys

Our feline buddies always appreciate new toys! You may find Fluffy a little treasure chest, or perhaps a catnip parrot for her to bat around.

Entertainment

Why not keep the night’s entertainment on theme? If you want a fun family option, you can go with Hook, Treasure Island, Pan, or The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything. There’s even a pirate cat game, if you are so inclined.

Cat Tower

It’s not hard to imagine kitties climbing masts and riggings. If Fluffy doesn’t have a cat tower, this is a great time to make her one. Of course, if you want to go all-out, make your furry little buddy a catwalk with riggings.

Adopt A Fish

We don’t treat fish, but that doesn’t mean we don’t appreciate them. Consider getting some, and decorating the tank with pirate-themed goods. Put it in a spot where Fluffy can see it, but can’t reach it.
